iPhone 13 Pro Max review
The iPhone 13 Pro Max excels in almost every element that defines a great smartphone. This high-end flagship (starting at $1,099) features a 120Hz refresh rate display, the quickest performance of any device, and an incredible battery life.
But it’s the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s cameras that really set it apart, since they’re the greatest I’ve seen on a phone so far. You can shoot Cinematic mode videos with a captivating bokeh effect, select your own Photographic styles, and take super close-up shots with a new macro mode that takes advantage of the ultra-wide camera.
he iPhone 13 Pro Max’s camera bump is definitely more prominent this time around, thanks to the larger sensors, and the overall design is heftier than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. But I do like that the notch on the 6.7-inch display is smaller. Check out our iPhone 13 Pro review (opens in new tab) if you want all the same features in a more compact and slightly less expensive phone.
While I wish Apple offered faster charging and Touch ID, this is the best iPhone — and best phone period, as you’ll see in my full iPhone 13 Pro Max review.

iPhone 13 Pro Max Design
Our favorite color is Sierra blue, which has a smaller notch but is somewhat heavier than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max has the same flat edges as the iPhone 12 Pro Max but a distinct appearance. For starters, the camera array is bigger than previously, taking up somewhat more space on the phone’s rear.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max weighs 8.46 ounces, which is somewhat more than its predecessor’s 8.03-ounce weight. But I’ll let that slide because the new iPhone Pro has a bigger battery.
On the plus side, Apple shrunk the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s display by 20% while keeping the same key Face ID technology. It’s not a full-screen look, but it’s a step up from recent iPhones.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max is available in four different colors: graphite, gold, silver, and sierra blue. If I were paying with my own money, I would choose the blue model. The graphite model I tried has a sleek professional vibe, but it’s not as playful as the other two.
One thing to keep in mind is that, thanks to Apple’s new iPhone Self Service Repair kits, you can now perform your own repairs, but proceed with caution as you will need some technical knowledge.
